How Nurtured Thoughts Psychiatry Works
The team at Nurtured Thoughts provides personalised psychiatric care to patients across Sydney and NSW.
Your psychiatrist takes the time to understand your concerns and develops a treatment plan that fits your situation.
Initial Appointment
After scheduling an appointment, you’ll receive a short questionnaire to complete before your session. It covers your history, current symptoms and what you would like help with.
Your psychiatrist reviews this and any referral documentation in advance, so the appointment can stay focused on your care.
During the Session
Appointments are conducted via secure video call.
Your psychiatrist will assess your current symptoms, explore relevant history and work towards a clear diagnosis where possible.
If a diagnosis is appropriate, they’ll talk you through what it means, your treatment options (which may include medication where clinically appropriate) and what the next steps look like.
If counselling or psychological support would help, the psychiatrist can refer you to one of our in-house psychologists.
After Your Appointment
With your permission, a detailed report and treatment plan is sent to your GP within 2 weeks, so they have what they need to support your ongoing care.
If follow-up appointments are required, you will likely see the same psychiatrist again.
Our admin team is responsive and easy to reach between sessions if anything comes up.
ADHD Psychiatrist Melbourne
If you’ve been looking for an adult ADHD psychiatrist in Melbourne, we can usually provide an appointment within two weeks.

Having Trouble Finding a Psychiatrist in Melbourne?
Finding a psychiatrist in Melbourne can be a frustrating process. Long waitlists, limited availability and high out-of-pocket costs are common, and many patients spend months trying to find a service that's the right fit.
Because all our appointments are via telehealth, you can see a Nurtured Thoughts psychiatrist regardless of where you live in Victoria - from the inner suburbs to regional areas. Most patients are seen within two weeks and Medicare rebates apply if you have a GP referral.
Yes, all of our doctors are authorised to prescribe medications, including the full range of medical treatments approved for the management of ADHD in Australia. Your doctor will explain what treatments may be suitable in your initial appointment.
Yes, you will need an assessment and diagnosis of ADHD before starting treatment. If you have a prior ADHD diagnosis (from a psychologist, psychiatrist or paediatrician), our doctor will review your history and conduct a shortened assessment. For patients with an existing ADHD diagnosis, the cost for assessment and starting treatment is $995. For a new assessment, our diagnostic and treatment package is $1,950 (payable in 4 interest-free payments, if required). See the ADHD Assessment page for further information.
That’s fine. Many of the patients at our ADHD clinic are stable on medications and just require a quick review appointment every 3 months for medication management.
Our clinic is based in Queensland, but we see patients across Australia via telehealth. If medication is prescribed, you’ll be able to access it wherever you live in Australia.
No. You do not need a referral from a GP or other specialist to access our ADHD clinic.
Yes, our psychologists provide ADHD-specific coaching and skill-building for executive function challenges like organisation and time management. This can be particularly useful if you’re struggling at work or with study. Our psychologists can also support you with relationship difficulties linked to ADHD.
Once stable, most patients have a review appointment with their doctor once every 3 months. Review appointments are $249.
Frequently Asked Questions
Costs depend on whether you have a GP referral. With a referral, Medicare covers a portion of each appointment and you pay the gap. See our fees page for more information.
Payment plans may be available if costs are a barrier to accessing care. Please contact us and we can explain your options.

Yes, a 291 is a single psychiatric appointment where your psychiatrist conducts a full assessment and produces a detailed 12-month treatment plan for your GP to follow. It’s best if your GP writes "291" or "referring for assessment and management plan" on your referral for the Medicare item to apply.
After the appointment, your GP receives the report and treatment plan within two weeks. Please contact us to check your eligibility for a 291 assessment and confirm the fees for this service.
