FAQs
Our commonly asked questions
Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior. A licensed psychologist can provide a range of mental health services to help you overcome challenges, improve your relationships, and achieve your goals. Some common reasons people seek therapy include anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, and stress.
It can be helpful to seek therapy if you are experiencing distressing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or persistent negative thoughts. You might also consider therapy if you are having difficulty coping with life transitions or experiencing relationship problems. Ultimately, the decision to seek therapy is a personal one, and you should consider seeking help if you feel like you are struggling and would like support.
In your first therapy session, you can expect to discuss your concerns with your therapist and work together to establish treatment goals. Your therapist may also ask about your history, current symptoms, and any relevant medical or psychological issues. It is important to be open and honest with your therapist in order to receive the best possible care.
The length of therapy can vary depending on your individual needs and treatment goals. Some people may benefit from short-term therapy (e.g. 6-12 sessions) while others may require longer-term therapy to achieve their goals. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs.
We recommend that you check directly with your private health provider to determine your eligibility for rebates on sessions with your psychologist. While our psychologists and mental health occupational therapists have a general provider number that can be used with most private health providers, counsellors have unique provider numbers for each private health provider. We cannot guarantee that sessions will be covered, as this is dependent on your selected provider and level of cover.
