ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis

From assessment to diagnosis to medical treatment (if suitable) in a single appointment. Australia-wide appointments via telehealth with no referral required.

Interest-free payment plans available - from $31 per week.

What Is an ADHD Assessment?

An ADHD assessment is a structured clinical evaluation that examines how ADHD may be affecting your attention, focus, and day-to-day functioning. The outcome is a clear diagnostic decision, either confirming ADHD or identifying what else might better explain your symptoms.

At Nurtured Thoughts, our ADHD assessments are conducted by experienced doctors with a special interest in ADHD. In most cases, assessment, diagnosis and the start of medical treatment (if appropriate) can all happen within the same appointment - so you leave with clarity, not a referral to a waiting list.

How Does ADHD Diagnosis Work in Australia?

In Australia, ADHD can be diagnosed by a range of clinicians, psychiatrists, paediatricians, psychologists and GPs (in some states). Psychologists can conduct thorough ADHD assessments and provide a formal diagnosis, but they cannot prescribe medication. Medical treatment, where appropriate, requires a doctor.

The clinical team at Nurtured Thoughts includes ADHD doctors and psychiatrists. This means your assessment, diagnosis and treatment can all be managed in one place, without the delays of multiple referrals or long waiting lists.

Adult ADHD Assessment

Many adults seeking an ADHD assessment describe a similar experience: high-functioning on the outside, but exhausted by the effort it takes to hold everything together.

ADHD assessment for adults at Nurtured Thoughts is specially designed for people who have been wondering how to get an ADHD diagnosis and proper treatment and support for a long time, and are finally ready to find out. Our doctors approach every assessment without judgement, taking the time to understand your full picture before reaching any conclusions.

If ADHD is diagnosed, treatment can usually begin in the same appointment. If it isn't, you'll leave with a clear explanation of what the assessment found and what might better explain your experience.

Late Diagnosis and Adult ADHD

It's common for adults to reach their 30s, 40s or beyond before receiving an ADHD diagnosis.

Many spent years being told they just needed to try harder, be more organised, or manage their time better. For some, it was a child's diagnosis that prompted them to look at their own history differently.

An adult ADHD assessment at Nurtured Thoughts takes your full life history into account, not just your current symptoms. If ADHD has been shaping your experience for decades, that context matters.

Is ADHD Assessment Bulk Billed?

ADHD assessments at Nurtured Thoughts are privately billed and do not attract a Medicare rebate.

Interest-free payment plans are available from $31 per week, with a one-time payment of $295 made before your appointment. If cost is a concern, we'd encourage you to speak with our team before you decide.
